I’ve recently created another website for my artistic pursuits. At crawshawcreative.com you’ll find a number of my drawings, photographs and paintings.

Food for thought!

So, it was not without a dash of irony that I signed up for a food-writing class at Grant MacEwan, taught by the successful Edmonton food writer Jennifer Cockrall-King.But, while I’m a sad cook — and a trecherous baker — I do love good food. And, as a pescetarian (I am a fallen vegetarian who eats fish), food is always on my mind. So, why not write about it?Especially since food intersects with culture, travel, science, leisure and many other fascinating areas. So, I relish (pun intended) the idea of writing about all of these things and not simply the prospect of restaurant reviews (although that would be fun too).

The first class was held this weekend and the class finishes up next Saturday — definitely a great use of a couple of Saturdays.

The blog begins!

Well, it turns out that I am able to start my blog a bit sooner than I expected! I have two items to share with you, in fact. Firstly, tonight I’m speaking to the Edmonton Association of Professional Coaches. It’s my first speaking engagement in quite some time. Last year, I spoke to student journalists at the Gateway (where I started out). However, tonight’s engagement will be quite different, as you can imagine! I will be speaking on the differences between online and print media, and how professional coaches can pitch good web stories to editors (and freelance writers, for that matter). It’s certainly an exciting opportunity and a great chance to meet local coaches, who may wish to be interviewed as experts in upcoming stories (I’m crossing my fingers!).Wish me luck!
In other news, I am happy to report that I’m officially registered in Ryerson University’s Certificate in Publishing program. My first course begins in January, and I’m very excited. Since graduating from the U of A in 2005, I’ve been eager to start another program, particularly a professional program. I still plan to do a master’s degree, but this program will be immediately applicable to my day-to-day work.

Stay tuned!
