The power of the Internet

I always figured I had a bit of a knack for Internet searching, but about a week-and-a-half ago I discovered how much more there is to know.

At a day-long seminar taught by acclaimed journalist Julian Sher and hosted by the Canadian Science Writers’ Association, I learnt how to bypass awkward government websites, find the owners of websites, customize my own search engine and a whole lot more.

Sher figures that the Internet makes lazy journalists lazier. And fair enough. While I wouldn’t call myself lazy or complacent, I definitely have a better grasp on how to use the web to get useful information in far less time. An incredibly worthwhile course.
